The Board of Directors of eBooks.com Pty Limited (the “Company”) is vested with responsibility for formulating strategy and approving the corporate policies of the Company, and for organising internal control systems, pursuant to the Company’s mission, vision and values.
The Board of Directors approves this Environmental Policy in the exercise of these responsibilities and in order to further develop the Company’s corporate philosophy.
The Company recognises its responsibility for the environment and will ensure compliance with all relevant current and future legislation. Where appropriate, we will also endeavour to exceed the requirements of applicable codes of practice.
We are committed to minimising the environmental impact of our operations. Specifically, we will achieve this through our commitment to:
- integrate the consideration of environmental concerns and impacts into our decision making and activities;
- train, educate and inform our employees about environmental issues that may affect their work;
- promote environmental awareness among our employees and encourage them to work in an environmentally responsible manner;
- minimise energy and water use within our buildings in order to conserve supplies and minimise the consumption of natural resources.;
- monitor our energy and water use and effluent production;
- where possible, purchase products and services that do the least damage to the environment;
- review and enforce our sustainable procurement policy to align with good practice; and
- communicate our environmental commitment to clients, customers and the public and encourage them to support it.
The Company will foster environmental awareness and understanding in all employees, suppliers, customers and subcontractors. Where practicable, the company will provide information and assistance to customers on environmental issues arising from its products and services.

2020 Environmental Policy Update
Progress
In the fiscal year to June 30, 2020 we:
- Reduced travel by half (helped by COVID lockdowns).
- All recyclable office waste is now recycled.
- Replaced our coffee system with one whose pods are recycled and the grounds are composted.
- Traditional paper correspondence is now a trickle.

2019 Environmental Policy Update
Progress
In the fiscal year to June 30, 2019 we:
- Reduced corporate travel air miles by a further 8 per cent compared to the 2018 year.
- Carbon-offset all flights.
- Became almost 100% paperless after successfully pushing incoming business correspondence and reporting online.
- Replaced all remaining desktop computers with laptops (using up to 80% less energy per unit).
- Recycled all end-of-life electronics.
Goals
- Provide more comprehensive in-office recycling capabilities
- Find an alternative to those little plastic coffee pods that persist in landfill for a million years.

2018 Environmental Policy Update
Progress
In the fiscal year to June 30, 2018 we:
- reduced corporate travel air miles by 18 per cent compared to the 2017 year.
- reduced head office electricity consumption by encouraging a policy of opening windows instead of continuous air conditioning.
Goals
- We have embarked on a programme of pushing back against those companies who continue to mail paper correspondence to our offices. Early results are encouraging and we aim to completely eliminate incoming paper correspondence by June 30, 2019.
- We will reduce our carbon footprint further this year by ensuring that all future air travel includes 100 per cent carbon offset.
