Who’s buying ebooks: Geographical insights from eBooks.com

The geographical distribution of ebook sales holds an interesting insight

In answer to the question, “Who’s buying ebooks?” we already know that, unlike printed books, ebooks are significantly more popular with younger readers. But where are those readers?

As an independent, global ebook retailer, we have a unique insight into ebook reading and buying habits around the world. And the answer is kind of interesting. Our biggest market, unsurprisingly, is the US; an affluent, English-speaking bunch who were very early adopters of ebooks — even before the advent of the Kindle.

But our second biggest geo market is “Rest-of-World”. This is what we affectionately call all those 192 countries that aren’t the US, UK, Canada or Australia, or in Europe.

In fact, we operate 6 distinct websites which are visible according to the territory of the visitor:

  • United States (USD)
  • Europe (EUR)
  • Canada (CAD)
  • United Kingdom (GBP)
  • Australia (AUD)
  • Rest-of World (USD)
